MGS Theme Rules

I just made a wicked find. Playing Metal Gear Solid (the original on the PSone) with my mates, Adam and John, led to my searching on Radio.Blog.Club for anything Metal Gear. I found a masterpiece. Click here and play the Metal Gear Solid Theme. It made me go completely hyper (a mixture of having wicked music and sudden good news I think). Try it; it’s awesome!

My Hamster Obsession

July 30, 2006 at 11:54 pm | In Questions, Visual Media | Leave a Comment

I recently posted about my prejudice against television. Well, the two programmes I seem to be able to watch are Top Gear and Brainiac. The obvious connection: Richard Hammond. I don’t watch these problems because I like the Hamster, I just like the subjects and humour. Do I have a subconscious crush on Hammond? Or do I hate caravans? I don’t know.

This raises the question though: if Richard Hammond was in the O.C., would I watch it? This is a question I would like to have answered. I plan on emailing both Richard and the producers of the O.C. and finding out whether I can stand it or not. All in the name of mental science of course! Maybe I could get medical sponsorship…

My Life, In One Monthly Affordable (free) Page

As many people know, music is at the centre of my life. And being something is awesome and amazing, I want to spread it around everywhere and wipe it all over everyone’s face like I would a good ham and piccalilli sandwich. This is why I am such a Radio.Blog.Club fan. Not only can I create a playlist for myself to listen to, but I can share it with anyone I want.

I’m not being paid by them. I’m not an advertising tool. I just think that this is a great invention: a way of effortlessly collecting and sharing music.

Actually, the reason I am writing this post is that I’d like to direct people’s attention to my playlist and make everyone aware of my taste in music. I’ve stuck a link to my playlist in the blogroll, and I’ve stuck a link in the “About Me” page. As the playlist will constantly be updated, I think it’s worth putting a permanent link somewhere easily accessible (so I never have to type to get to this page, primarily).

So: visit my playlist.

Japan’s Luckiness – or – The Music Market’s Stupidity

July 28, 2006 at 8:24 pm | In Muse, Music, Rants | 1 Comment

Being a Muse fan, I wish I were Japanese. Why do they always get more music than us? On Black Holes & Revelations, the Japs got a bonus track: Glorious. This song is as good, if not better, than most on our albums. They also got an album full of great Muse b-sides. Is the music market better there than here in the UK? Do Muse have a better and more faithful fanbase in the East? I’ve also heard that this is the case for other bands too. I seem to remember being told that there were bonus tracks on a Feeder album that were only available in Japan. I need answers. I hope there is a satisfactory reason for this “Eastcoddling”.

All I can really say is, thank goodness for Radio.Blog.Club!

Is Space Quantised? (Part 3)

Is Space Quantised? (Part 1) | Is Space Quantised? (Part 2)

I have been reading a lot about this kind of physics recently; my current reading material is all about the string theory (a theory that is currently being researched and has not been universally agreed upon). What I think I have discerned so far is that space isn’t necessarily quantised below the Planck length, but can conventionally be thought of as not existing. According to Brian Greene, the definition of “existence” does not include the properties of the universe below Planck length. Unfortuantely, I can’t remember exactly why, and I don’t have the book to hand.

The physics of the universe below the Planck length is impossible for physicists to cope with as spacetime is constanly being warped and rewarped at this level: quantum foam. Quantum foam arises from the theory of quantum mechanics and is the divide between this theory and general relativity, which requires that spacetime is smooth at every level. The string theory bring these two theories together in such a way that they no longer clash like this, but that is a different story altogether.

If anyone anywhere has any help whatsoever, I would be very very grateful.

Confidence or Instruction?

July 28, 2006 at 7:08 am | In Questions | 1 Comment

Had my first driving lesson yesterday. I really enjoyed it. I didn’t look forward to it, I don’t usually, with things like that. A few minutes and I’d learned the basics. A few more minutes and I’d sorted the gears. I thought it was quite simple. The single problem I had, though, was that I didn’t think 30mph was very fast. A few times I found myself going nearly 40 without noticing. My question is, why do other learners always stick to 20? Alright, I went 20 for a matter of five minutes until I realised that going 30 was just as easy as 20 was. But that was five minutes. Every learner driver I’ve ever seen has been going 20. Is this because of their lack of confidence or is it because the instructor tells them to maintain a lower speed? I’m just interested because my instructor wasn’t too bothered about speed and I thought he maybe should have been.

The Fifteen Minute Rule

July 27, 2006 at 1:05 pm | In Gaming | 2 Comments

Waiting for a game to install is often a very boring thing to do, especially if it is a DVD game, with which it often takes more than three whole minutes. Yesterday, while waiting for a game to install, I picked up the manual. I usually skip the first four or five pages of a game manual as they are mostly the same, but on this particular occasion, I looked at the page inside the cover. It said something like, “always take a 15 minute break for every hour of game time”. I know this has always been said in manuals, ever since the dawn of time (and therefore, since the dawn of computer gaming), but it never occured to me that it might mean something. It’s certainly not something I’ve ever intentionally done, but there must be someone out there who does follow this guideline. If so, I’d like to meet them and introduce a small shovel to the back of their head.

Will Day

Yesterday, I got a phone call from my mate, John, asking, no, telling me to come out and help start a large (bon)fire down the Lime Pits. Being a slight pyromaniac and having John as my personal secretary, I obliged. I got dropped off round John’s on the way back from work (eugh) and set straight off to Asda to by some stuff.

“I went to market and I bought…” two boxes of matches, a bottle of white spirit, a box of firelighters.

And John brought along his saw for firewood. We strolled along to the Lime Pits and met a few people there: Dan and Will were amongst them. We got some wood, stuck a few firelighters underneath and whoosh! We had fire. We continued adding wood and firelighters, enjoyed a tribal dance around the fire, added white spirit to make the flames fly upwards six feet, etc. We named the day Will Day, due to the lack of no fire, and Will’s lack of no pyromania.

None of this compared to the finale though. I don’t know whos idea it was, but I think it might have been mine.We put cans of deoderant on the fire and ran like hell. 10 seconds later, there was a huge, incapacitating flashbang and a fireball 25/30 feet high. It was so cool! I will see if there is a way to get it from my mate’s phone to here, I’ve never seen anything so great first hand. We proceeded to do it two more times, and only stopped when someone got hit with some debris. This wouldn’t have seemed so bad if they weren’t sat 50 yards away. Ouch…

Anyway, I plan to do it again sometime, with more safety, though. ASPLODE!

I am Straight

July 19, 2006 at 11:57 pm | In Manliness, Randomness | 2 Comments

I’d just like to publicise a quick notice saying that whatever anyone says or whatever I seem to be like, I am very, very straight and am not gay or (very) bisexual. I’m (pretty much) entirely heterosexual, in fact.

Just thought I’d clear that up with everyone.

First + Period

July 18, 2006 at 10:05 am | In Randomness | 2 Comments

A quick peek at my ‘blog stats a minute ago summed up the sickness of some people’s search engine queries. Sure I posted about periods, but this is weird. Why would someone be searching this?

Egglog Search Engine Stats

I can understand someone searching “first period” if they were actually finding out if this site is in that list (which it obviously is), but I find it hard to believe that someone would be doing the same thing when searching for “what periods look like“. I’m also a bit upset that my ‘blog is fast becoming an information source for the general public on periods: third on the list! Or is that a good thing? I’m confused.

Why search “what periods look like”? I’m guessing this is some fetishist 13 year old boy looking for a cheap kick. In that case, I can only suppose the he found the Egglog and was pleasantly surprised obout how much more interesting this is than looking at pictures and descriptions of the happenings of female genitalia. Or the searchee could have just been awake after midnight around John’s house. In this case, it would be acceptable.
