The Fifteen Minute Rule

Waiting for a game to install is often a very boring thing to do, especially if it is a DVD game, with which it often takes more than three whole minutes. Yesterday, while waiting for a game to install, I picked up the manual. I usually skip the first four or five pages of a game manual as they are mostly the same, but on this particular occasion, I looked at the page inside the cover. It said something like, “always take a 15 minute break for every hour of game time”. I know this has always been said in manuals, ever since the dawn of time (and therefore, since the dawn of computer gaming), but it never occured to me that it might mean something. It’s certainly not something I’ve ever intentionally done, but there must be someone out there who does follow this guideline. If so, I’d like to meet them and introduce a small shovel to the back of their head.
